Demelza Charity Swim

February 2011

Sean’s Swim School are proud to have held its first ever sponsored swim for Demelza Children’s Charity.

Sean and his team of staff were lane counting for the event, children enjoyed the day by trying to swim as many lengths as they could, which proved a success as they all swam more lengths than they have ever before. The children received a certificate and a variety of gifts supplied by southern water and Sean’s Swim School, although we have not received all the money yet we estimate that we have raised £500 for this worthy cause.

Sean’s Swim School would like to thank all of the children and staff for volunteering to help run this successful and enjoyable event and also to Bodiam Manor School for allowing us to use their pool.

Demelza Children's Charity

The Demelza Community team provides a hospice at home service for children in East Sussex and South West Kent with life-threatening and life-limiting illness and their families. The service complements the care offered at Demelza residential sites, with the Demelza Community specialist pediatric nurses going directly into the family home to provide care, crisis intervention, an on-call service and respite. The service enables the family to live life as a family in their own environment - and coupled with Demelza residential services - greater flexibility in available care provision. Medical help and expert advice is available in the home, freeing up time for Mum and Dad to revert to their roles of being Mum and Dad again. When a child reaches the end of its life the Demelza Community team can offer 24 hour end of life care at home followed by bereavement support to members of the family, as required.

Visit the Demelza website to find out more about the work of the Demelza community team.

How long do lessons/courses last?

Lessons are 30 minutes each. Our termly swimming courses, with one lesson per week, are the same length as the school term so they fit neatly around children's holidays.

My child has been ill, should I still bring them to lessons?

Children should be fit and healthy on the day of their lesson. If your child has been suffering from sickness or Diarrhoea then they should not enter the water.

When will my child move up a class?

Children are continually assessed by the teacher. If the teacher feels that they are ready to move up a group then they will be moved straight away. You will not have to wait until the end of term.

When will my child get their next badge?

Badges are awarded to swimmers when they are able to repeatedly demonstrate the skills required for that badge. There is no defined timescale. As we all know, all children learn and develop new skills at different speeds.

Can I change my child's lesson to another day?

Due to the amount of pupils we have, there is a huge demand for certain session times. We will endeavour to find you a suitable time or day. If you would like to change please call Liz on 01424 814725.

My child can't attend next term, can you save their place?

Due to the numbers we have on our waiting list, places cannot be held for any length of time. If you know you cannot attend for a term, please call Liz 01424 814725, tell us when you wish to return and we will do everything we can to find a suitable vacancy.

What do I need to bring?

All you need is an appropriate swimming costume or trunks, towel, goggles and swim hat are optional. Oh and the only other thing you'll need is....... your smile!!

How long does it take to learn to swim?

Everyone is different and it really depends on what you want to achieve. Even after just one course you should be able to see a vast improvement in water confidence and swimming technique.

What age does my child have to be?

We start swimming lessons from the age of 3.

How many children are there in one class?

Our aim is to have no more than 8 pupils in a class to ensure our teachers are able to give each pupil the individual attention they deserve.
