‘Seans Swim School’ provides structured swimming lessons to cater for children of mixed ability between the ages of 3 and 12. Lessons are organised into 30 minutes sessions and taught by staff qualified to ‘Amateur Swimming Association’ (ASA) or ‘Swimming Teacher Association’ (STA) standards. We are open between 9:00am and 12:00pm weekend mornings during school term at Bodiam Manor School. Assessment of each Child will take place during the first lesson to ensure they are placed into a group depending on their ability. Any Child feeling nervous of the water will begin in the smaller training pool and only move up to the full size pool once they have established complete confidence in the water. Whilst we promote safety in the water, lessons will be fun and friendly.

Living by the coast and with decreasing levels of physical activity in children I feel swimming is a vital skill for children to learn, especially with its benefits as a low impact exercise and a promoter of a healthy lifestyle. I started swimming at the age of 8, which is quite late for an aspiring high-level competitive swimmer. I went through the ‘learn to swim programme’ very rapidly and by the age of ten had progressed to a local swimming club. I then advanced through several squads before moving to a different club as pool maintenance necessitated the temporary closure of my original club.

In this swimming club I developed my stroke technique and achieved my southern counties 100m backstroke. Later I made a rational decision to move to Portsmouth to concentrate on my education and develop myself as a swimmer. Whilst there I trained for two years and gained lots of valuable experience. I achieved the national qualifying time which enabled me to compete at national level. I retired from competitive swimming and decided to train to become a qualified swimming instructor and coach. I began work in this capacity rising to the level of head coach for a local club, which regularly competes in various competitions around the country. This has enabled me to constantly improve my teaching and coaching skills.
